The Old Roman Road - New Painting
Monday, 15 November 2010 22:40

The Roman road which passes through Huddersfield Yorkshire, originally linked the Roman bases of Chester and York. It has recently been discovered that it passes above the Yorkshire town of Marsden and past Pule Hill on its way to Huddersfield.
I have started a series of paintings around the vicinity of the route of the Roman Road on the wild moors above Marsden.
The ancient and untamed location of Pule Hill is a dramatic and ever changing viewpoint, once a strategic lookout for the Roman army, now utilised by paragliders soaring with the wild birds.
The painting "The Old Road - Marsden Yorkshire" shows the route of the Roman Road where it crosses the modern route and follows it a little way before winding across the moor opposite.
